Ownership structure and organization

The ownership structure of Robert Bosch GmbH guarantees the Bosch Group’s entrepreneurial independence. It enables the company to plan over the long term and to undertake significant upfront investments in the safeguarding of its future. The not-for-profit foundation Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH holds roughly 94 percent of the share capital of Robert Bosch GmbH, but has no influence on the strategic or business orientation of the Bosch Group. The remaining shares are held by a corporation owned by the Bosch family (roughly 5 percent) and the Robert Bosch GmbH (roughly 1 percent). Of the voting rights, some 93 percent are held by Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG. The approximately 7 percent of voting rights remaining are held by the founder’s descendants.

Robert Bosch Stiftung

The foundation continues the legacy of Robert Bosch by supporting health, education and global issues. In his will, the entrepreneur laid down a twofold mission: to secure the future of his company and to continue his social commitment. Since its inception 60 years ago, the foundation has held around 94 percent of the company's shares and is funded by dividends. However, the foundation is independent and non-partisan.

The Robert Bosch Stiftung is committed to a fair and sustainable future. To this end, it provides funding at both international and local levels, develops innovative projects, and maintains its own (research) institutions. The results of its funding activities are regularly presented to experts and the interested public. Since 1964, the foundation has invested some 2.3 billion euros in its charitable work.

We take responsibility

For us, sustainability means securing the company’s long-term success while at the same time protecting the natural resources on which present and future generations depend. Ecology is thus a driver of innovation. At the same time, we demonstrate a particularly high level of corporate social responsibility — both within the company and beyond.

Our history

In 1886, Robert Bosch founded the “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering” in Stuttgart. This was the birth of today‘s globally operating company. Right from the start, it was characterized by innovative strength and social commitment.
