Ulli Hoffmann
Senior Expert and Strategic portfolio co-owner of IoT@Life
After graduating in Electrical Engineering, I started at Bosch in the Power Tools division, contributing to the development of the Bosch Wallscanner and applying my expertise in digital signal processing.
With experience as a development engineer in the Power Tools business unit, I transitioned to the research division, where I led projects, including one in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance.
Currently, as Co-Owner, I am responsible for the strategic direction and development of new business areas for the international IoT@Life portfolio.
Please tell us what fascinates you most about research.
Engaging with new fields of study and unresolved challenges is, for me, the essence of research. What drives me in particular is the opportunity to develop innovative solutions and explore uncharted scientific territory.
What makes research done at Bosch so special?
The interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve common goals is particularly enriching and unique at Bosch Research. At the same time, I am motivated by the prospect of turning ideas into marketable products for our business sectors.
What research topics are you currently working on at Bosch?
As co-leader of the strategic portfolio “IoT@Life,” I drive the development of innovations in the field of "digitalization" for the business sectors Power Tools, B/S/H Home Appliances, and Home Comfort, from the ideation phase to product implementation.
What are the biggest scientific challenges in your field of research?
A key challenge is the rapid transformation of innovative ideas into marketable products that meet customer requirements. Optimizing development time for the fastest possible market launch is crucial in this process.
How do the results of your research become part of solutions “Invented for life”?
Since our portfolio is focused on consumer and durable goods, a deep understanding of the market is essential. Through close collaboration with our business sectors, we gain direct insights into customer needs and can respond to them at an early stage. This is one aspect of “Invented for life.”
