Industry Sabbatical Program — Research meets Industrial Application

Your opportunity as academical researcher at Bosch

A doctoral student studying in the Bosch Research library.

The Industry Sabbatical Program is specifically designed for graduate researchers enrolled at a university, whether you are currently writing your PhD, working as a postdoc, or already teaching.

The program offers the opportunity to work on current and exciting industry projects for a defined period of two months up to one year.

Participants gain exclusive insights into industrial research trends that enrich their expertise and have the opportunity to work together with experts in cutting-edge research from the international Bosch network in various key research areas — from automation and electrification to digitalization and connectivity, artificial intelligence, climate action and sustainability, and healthcare.

This diversity at Bosch makes it possible to selectively and comprehensively pursue individual research interests.

What makes Bosch Research’s Industry Sabbatical a special program

In the Industry Sabbatical, fundamental research meets applicability: we view our guiding principle “Invented for life” as a mission to develop technologies and products that make life better. Innovative and comprehensive research forms the basis. To achieve this, we need highly specialized experts from a wide range of fields who participate in research and development with us — and advance their own research careers in the process.

Interdisciplinary science network

The interdisciplinary science network offers the opportunity to build up an extensive network with leading industry experts. This results in valuable partnerships and promising career opportunities.

Inspiration for research and theory

The industrial environment opens up new perspectives and impulses that enrich both research and teaching in the long term.

Stepping stone to the industry

The program serves as a stepping stone to industry, and provides initial insights and contacts to facilitate the transition from the academic world to industrial research. It also provides a deeper understanding of applied research and development.

Applied research

During the Industry Sabbatical, participants work on specific industry cases in an innovative research environment with state-of-the-art technologies and tools in order to raise their practical know-how to a new level and selectively develop individual skills.

Further information on the Industry Sabbatical Program

The framework of the industry sabbatical is flexible and tailored to the professional experience and expertise of the participant.

The duration usually varies between two months and one year. It is agreed individually between the participant and the specialist department.

The aim of the Industry Sabbatical is to work on a clearly defined research project, ideally culminating in a joint publication. The topic is selected in close consultation with the participant and the specialist department in order to combine scientifically sound content and industry relevance.

During the Industry Sabbatical, participants are employed by Bosch Research and receive a salary. The university contract is paused during this time so that the focus can be placed entirely on the research project.

Participants benefit from excellent supervision by Bosch experts who support the project and encourage the participant. Participants also have access to state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities.
