Science thrives on curiosity, creative ideas, and interdisciplinary exchange. These qualities were at the heart of this year’s Bosch Research Foundation presentation event in Renningen. The foundation supports PhD candidates conducting research in key scientific and technical fields. Once a year, they gather on the research campus to present their projects. Again this year, on March 24 and 25, 2025, early-career researchers from various disciplines, universities, and scientific institutions showcased their latest work and discussed innovative approaches.

How can CO₂ emissions be reduced more efficiently? What role does artificial intelligence play in industrial production? And how can new medical concepts help fight serious diseases? These were just a few of the questions addressed in presentations that reflected the foundation’s broad range of focus topics — from digitalization and sustainability to health research. Particular attention was given to innovative technologies for analyzing biological processes, new approaches to sustainable CO₂ usage, and concepts for future energy systems. The discussions highlighted how interdisciplinary collaboration can produce practical solutions to global challenges.

Innovation as a Driver of Change

Dr. Udo Gómez, President of Bosch Research, emphasized in his keynote the importance of research as a driver of innovation. “Innovation doesn’t happen by chance — it’s the result of focused research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a culture that embraces bold ideas,” Gómez explained. He highlighted the role of Bosch Research as a bridge between basic science and industrial application, and presented key research fields in which Bosch is making groundbreaking progress — including artificial intelligence, sustainable energy solutions, and connected production systems.

In addition to the scientific presentations, the event offered valuable opportunities for networking. Discussions with Bosch experts gave researchers fresh, practical perspectives on their work. Interactive panels and informal conversations illustrated how closely the success of innovation is tied to active exchange between science and industry.

A Foundation with Vision

For nearly four decades, the Bosch Research Foundation has supported outstanding fundamental research. It funds research projects focused on digitalization and artificial intelligence, sustainability and climate protection, and health. This year’s event once again demonstrated that the supported projects not only enable academic progress, but also have the potential to spark meaningful societal change.
